Charlotte-based Novant Health has shared plans to expand with a new $251.2 million hospital and freestanding emergency department in Leland, N.C., according to an Oct. 20 news release.
Novant filed a certificate of need for the 20-bed hospital, Novant Health Leland Medical Center, which would house a 24/7 emergency department, 10 observation beds, five procedure rooms and imaging services.
If approved, Novant Health Leland would become the system’s 20th hospital. The system currently comprises 19 hospitals, nearly 900 locations and more than 750 physician clinics, urgent care centers, outpatient facilities, imaging and pharmacy services.
“Our strategic efforts are designed to expand access to care close to home to meet the current and future care needs of this community,” Ernie Bovio, president of the Novant Health Coastal Region, said in the release. “Novant Health has proudly served Brunswick County for nearly 20 years, and we’re excited to continue to add facilities and recruit needed physicians to secure healthcare access throughout the county.”
The expansion plan comes amid ongoing construction for a Leland-based ambulatory surgery center, which aims to expand convenient surgical care access. Novant is also expanding services at Bolivia, N.C.-based Brunswick Medical Center by adding MRI space and a cardiac catheterization lab.
