Memorial Regional Hospital South to open rehabilitation unit in May

Hollywood, Fla.-based Memorial Regional Hospital South will officially open its Medically Complex Rehabilitation Unit May 2.

The 15-bed unit is located within the Memorial Rehabilitation Institute at the hospital. The facility will specialize in treating patients who require additional and complex medical care, including patients in need of cancer, bariatric, cardiac and post-transplant care. The facility will also be able to care for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and individuals who have had prolonged hospitalizations. The facility will also have telemedicine capabilities.

Officials said the official open house for the unit is May 2 at 5 p.m.

"This unit was designed to optimize a patient's recovery following a medical event or catastrophic illness by bringing them to rehabilitation earlier in the safest environment possible. Our team of physicians, therapists, nurses, social workers, case managers, administrators and other healthcare professionals will work directly with patients and families to set and go beyond their goals and expectations for recovery."
