The five-story, 170,000-square-foot facility includes a teaching space for the medical school, nursing program and school of health professions. It also contains a simulation center, mock exam rooms, classrooms and additional spaces for studying. The building replaces other older facilities scattered throughout the campus.
The building was financed with $26 million from the state, $21 million from the medical center itself, $25 million from the Hall Family Foundation and the rest was an accumulation of other private donations.
“The building will enable us to increase the number of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals that we train, and to train them in a technologically advanced environment demanded by new and modern health care curricula,” Robert Simari, MD, executive dean of the medical school, told KCUR.
