Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Medicine broke ground March 27 on a new pediatric hospital in Wesley Chapel, Fla.

The 56-bed Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital Wesley Chapel will expand access to specialized care, according to a March 27 health system news release. Pasco County is projected to see 12% pediatric population growth between 2023 and 2032, and 93% of pediatric patients in the county currently travel outside the area for specialty care, the release said.

The new facility will span 112 acres and include a 16-room emergency center, four operating rooms, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services, an infusion center and a sleep laboratory. The hospital is expected to open in the third quarter of 2027, a system spokesperson previously confirmed to Becker’s.

In January, Johns Hopkins All Children’s opened an outpatient care center nearby in Lutz, Fla., offering pediatric specialty care in cardiology, pulmonology, endocrinology, surgery and diagnostic services.

“This new project represents our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional care closer to home and advancing health in our community,” Johns Hopkins All Children’s President Alicia Schulhof said in the release. “The Wesley Chapel hospital will not only enhance our ability to deliver cutting-edge medical treatments, but also foster an environment where patients feel supported, cared for, and respected.”
