Houston Methodist has received a $25 million gift from The Duncan Fund for its department of medicine.

The hospital will rename the department the Houston Methodist Charles W. Duncan Jr. Department of Medicine in recognition of the donation, according to an Aug. 6 news release.

Among the initiatives to be funded with the gift is the addition of five endowed fellowships. Other areas of funding include multidisciplinary care by hospitalist physicians, and programs that leverage artificial intelligence to tailor treatments and preventative strategies, and reduce readmission rates.

The donors have also helped establish the Charles and Anne Duncan Scholars Program and endowed chairs in endocrinology and nephrology.
