Tallahassee-based Florida State University is planning to build an acute care hospital in Panama City Beach, Fla.

The new hospital, which will be under the FSU Health name, is estimated to cost approximately $414 million and will serve residents of Bay and Walton counties, according to a March 26 system news release. FSU will partner with an organization — currently anticipated to be Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare — to lease and operate the new facility.

The hospital will open up with 180 beds and offer a range of services such as emergency medicine, general surgery, and diagnostic imaging. After the first phase is complete, it will then develop specialized service lines such as cardiac care, neurology and orthopedics.

Construction is expected to begin soon, with an estimated open date in 2028.
