Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Health Care System broke ground Nov. 7 on a $507 million hospital in North Port, Fla.

The acute-care hospital, which is expected to be complete in 2028, will comprise nine stories and an adjacent three-story medical office building. It will open with 100 beds and later double to 208 beds, with capacity to eventually expand to over 400 beds.

SMH-North Port will comprise emergency, medical, specialty and surgical care, including onsite outpatient services and physician practices.

Sarasota Memorial is a community-owned health system that features two full-service hospitals, freestanding emergency rooms, a rehabilitation hospital, a behavioral health hospital, a skilled nursing facility, outpatient centers, urgent care clinics and physician practices, the release said.
