The health system was required by law to rebuild Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital to meet seismic requirements.
The project has been constructed in seven phases. The last several phases consisted of demolishing 283,263 square feet of the existing hospital building and rebuilding parts of it to meet code.
The project initially was scheduled for completion in 2013, but it faced construction delays.
After the project wraps at the Santa Barbara hospital, Cottage Health plans to expand its emergency department by 18 beds.
