Construction begins on new UCHealth hospital: 6 things to know

Aurora, Colo.-based UCHealth broke ground Wednesday on its new Highlands Ranch (Colo.) Hospital.

Here are six things to know.

1. The six-story hospital will include approximately 360,000 square feet of space and will include a neighboring 85,000-square-foot medical office building, which will be home to a two-story cancer center, according to a news release.

2. Highlands Ranch Hospital will be equipped with approximately 72 inpatient beds when it opens, but will feature room for expansion.

3. The facility will house an intensive care unit, operating rooms, Level III trauma center and emergency department, advanced cardiac services, complete imaging, and a birth center with C-section operating rooms and Level II neonatal intensive care unit.

4. UCHealth said it will provide care at the hospital through partnership with community physicians and with the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

5. The estimated cost for Highlands Ranch Hospital is $310 million.

6. Officials expect the hospital to open in early 2019.
