NY state department approves CON for new St. James Mercy Hospital

The New York State Department of Health on May 19 approved St. James Mercy Hospital's certificate of need application for the construction of a new hospital and the implementation of a new EMR system, reports The Evening Tribune.

The Hornell, N.Y.-based hospital plans to build an 87,300-square-foot facility in Hornellsville, N.Y., where a K-Mart store used to be. It will include a 10,000-square-foot emergency department, a 15-bed medical/surgical unit, a four-bed observation unit, a surgery/endoscopy center, an infusion center and radiology and laboratory services, according to the report.

St. James Mercy Hospital learned last year that it had been granted $55 million in state funds to finance the construction of a new hospital building and the implementation of a new EMR system, according to the report. It did not disclose what vendor it will choose or has chosen.

The hospital submitted the CON to the state in October. The new hospital is expected to open in 2019, according to the report.
