The decision came after the 100-year-old structure was evaluated by city engineers, insurance carriers and local architects, according to the report.
In a letter to UPMC Jameson South Side President Douglas Danko, the city asked the hospital to demolish the structure and adjacent facilities and transfer ownership of the property to the New Castle redevelopment authority for future development, according to the report.
The city also asked the hospital for a $2 million contribution to be used to pave streets and support other efforts to help redevelop the city’s South Side.
