St. Joseph, Mich.-based Lakeland Health will expand its St. Joseph-based Lakeland Medical Center in a $160 million project.

Lakeland Health's board of directors approved funding for the project July 25. The expansion includes a pavilion with five floors of medical and surgical suites, a short stay unit, imaging centers, an ICU and education and community rooms. In addition, a main entrance with designated areas for healthy living and other outreach programs will be built.

Other additions include private corridors for transport into the hospital, improved accessibility in and outside the facility and more natural light.
