Atrium Health proposes $86M satellite hospital in North Carolina

Charlotte, N.C.-based Atrium Health has submitted a certificate-of-need proposal to Cabarrus County for an $85.5 million expansion that would turn its freestanding emergency room in Harrisburg, N.C., into a satellite hospital.

If approved, the expansion would add an estimated 50,000 square feet to the facility and inpatient, surgical and fixed MRI services, according to a statement shared with Becker’s.

Twenty-four acute care beds and an operating room would also be relocated from Atrium Health Cabarrus. 

If the state grants a certificate of need, construction is slated to end in early 2026.
