Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based AdventHealth will open a $270 million hospital, AdventHealth Minneola (Fla.), Dec. 10.

Kay Barnett, CEO of AdventHealth Minneola, told Becker’s that her top priorities for the facility’s first year include expanding access for South Lake County’s rapidly growing population, building out needed service lines and outpatient care to support that growth and continuing to invest in and develop the hospital’s care team. She added that improving access will also help reduce the number of residents who currently leave the county for inpatient care.

“We’re thrilled about the team that is here and ready to care for our patients,” Ms. Barnett said. “They’re so engaged and excited about getting to open a new hospital, and we are going to continue investing in their growth and development, making sure that we grow the team along with the services.”

AdventHealth Minneola is the system’s ninth facility in the AdventHealth central Florida division, and comprises a full-service emergency department, imaging and diagnostic services, five operating suites and endoscopy services, an outpatient laboratory, heart catheterization labs, 40 critical care patient rooms and 40 general medical and surgical rooms, according to a Dec. 9 news release shared with Becker’s

They system also said the facility will create more than 500 jobs in the community.

“Around half of the team members who are joining are already employed by AdventHealth, and were working at some of our sister campuses,” Ms. Barnett said. “By coming to the Minneola campus, they’re able to work close to home, cut their commute times down and stay within the county where they reside. The other half are new to the organization, and it’s great to see their excitement about being part of our mission.”

AdventHealth is also building an adjacent medical office building that will offer cardiology, gastroenterology, general and vascular surgery, oncology, orthopedics, rehabilitation, sports medicine, urology, an outpatient laboratory and a pharmacy.
