Christian Wallis was named CEO of the Northern Inyo Healthcare District, which operates a 25-bed critical access hospital in Bishop, Calif., and associated clinics.

Mr. Wallis has served in the role on an interim basis since early 2025.

In an Oct. 15 news release, he said he didn’t plan to apply for the permanent position, but his positive experience at the hospital ultimately led him to consider doing so.

The Northern Inyo Healthcare District Board of Directors chose Mr. Wallis from among three finalists.

“Christian has brought a steady hand and a clear sense of direction,” NIHD Board Chair Jean Turner said in the release. “He listens carefully, values teamwork, and leads with integrity. His approach has helped restore confidence and a sense of shared purpose throughout the organization.

“Additionally, Christian is highly regarded among his California healthcare CEO colleagues and, as such, brings access to a wealth of knowledge and expertise about effective strategies for the survival of rural hospitals in these trying times.”

Prior to joining NIHD, Mr. Wallis served as CEO of Grossmont Healthcare District in La Mesa, Calif.
