UVA Health hospital names interim CEO

Charlottesville, Va.-based UVA Health University Medical Center appointed Teresa Edwards as interim CEO, effective Sept. 15.

Ms. Edwards succeeds Wendy Horton, PharmD, who departed UVA Health to become a senior vice president and president of adult care services at San Francisco-based UCSF Health.

Ms. Edwards most recently served as senior vice president and regional president of Norfolk, Va.-based Sentara Health’s Eastern division, where she oversaw five hospitals and led operational expansions, strategic planning and supply chain initiatives. 

Between 2016 and 2020, Ms. Edwards was corporate vice president for Sentara’s Peninsula Region in Virginia, where she managed multiple hospitals, as well as long-term care operations encompassing 750 licensed beds across seven facilities and two assisted-living centers.

Earlier in her career, she was president of Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk from 2008 to 2016, where she led a $129 million renovation project. Ms. Edwards also held leadership roles at Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center in Richmond, Va.
