Facebook bans employee travel to China amid Coronavirus outbreak

Facebook announced Jan. 27 that it is restricting employee travel to China as the coronavirus continues to spread, according to CNBC.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we have taken steps to protect the health and safety of our employees,” said Facebook spokesperson Anthony Harrison in a statement to CNBC.

The tech company has banned all non-essential travel to China. Employees must receive approval to travel to the country. Facebook is the first major U.S. technology company to restrict travel to China.

As of Jan. 28, more than 100 people have died because of the coronavirus and there are 4,474 confirmed cases.
