In a letter sent to the Texas Workforce Commission Friday, a Kindred Healthcare executive said the move constituted a “strategic decision to consolidate [the health system’s] Houston Integrated Market operations,” and that “all positions will be eliminated,” according to the report. The facility is no longer accepting new patients.
“We are always evaluating our portfolio and looking for opportunities to reposition our assets so that we can provide services where and when patients need it most,” the health system said in a statement to the Houston Chronicle.
Officials said the health system aims to retain some employees affected by the closure, and to help others find work elsewhere, according to the report.
Kindred still retains eight long-term acute care facilities in the Houston area, according to the report. The health system previously closed two health facilities in Houston and Baytown, Texas, in August 2016.
