Landmark Medical Center undergoes brief power outage, backup generator fails

Woonsocket, R.I.-based Landmark Medical Center suffered a power outage Wednesday and was unable to restore power with its backup generator, according to NBC-10 News.

Woonsocket Deputy Fire Chief Roger Perreault told NBC-10 the fire department was alerted to the incident around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. Chief Perreault reported the entire hospital, apart from the operating room, lost power, according to the article.

Officials called 14 ambulances and a mass casualty incident trailer as a precaution. Officials said one patient was transported from the medical center to a nearby facility. Power was reportedly restored to by 2 a.m., according to the report.

A spokesperson for the hospital told NBC-10 officials are unsure why the power outage occurred and why the backup generator failed. The spokesperson said workers from the area’s electric and gas company performed scheduled work at the facility prior to the incident.

The spokesperson also told NBC-10 all patients are “doing fine” this morning, according to the report.
