OSU Medical Center affected by rodent-caused power outage in Tulsa

Twenty-one buildings in Tulsa, Okla., — including the Oklahoma State University Medical Center — were affected by a rodent-caused power outage on Thursday, according to a Tulsa World report.

A rat or mouse crawled into a switch gear of a transformer that provides power to a part of downtown Tulsa, according to the report, causing the buildings to lose power.

Equipment in the hospital's intensive care unit and other areas are plugged in outlets that switch over to backup power immediately if the main power goes out, according to the report, so patients were not at risk during this outage.

"Anytime the power goes out at our hospital, it in no way affects the quality of care that the patients receive," hospital spokeswoman Jamie Calkins told the World.
