12 hospital planning facility upgrades, expansions

The following hospitals announced or completed plans in the last week to expand, upgrade or renovate their facilities.

1. SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital and physician group to build $550M academic medical center
SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital and St. Louis-based SLUCare Physician Group are embarking on a $550 million academic medical center and ambulatory care center in St. Louis.

2. Banner Health, Core Institute partner on research clinic
Phoenix-based Banner Health is expanding its partnership with The Core Institute to build an academic- and research-focused clinic on the health system's campus in downtown Phoenix, according to AZ Big Media.

3. UChicago opens medical clinic in downtown Chicago
The University of Chicago Medicine opened an $8 million, 18,000-square-foot clinic in the city's South Loop area Feb. 21.

4. Mount Sinai Medical Center to undergo $275M expansion
Key Biscayne, Fla.-based Mount Sinai Medical Center will embark on a $275 million expansion of its emergency and surgical services, reports the St. Louis Business Journal.

5. W.W. Hastings Hospital breaks ground on $150M expansion
Officials of the Cherokee Nation and Indian Health Service broke ground Feb. 17 on a 469,000-square-foot expansion at W.W. Hastings Hospital in Tahlequah, Okla., reports Tulsa World.

6. Rush Oak Park Hospital gets greenlight for $30M ED overhaul
The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board approved Rush Oak Park (Ill.) Hospital's plan to replace its 50-year-old emergency department with a new facility.

7. Florida Hospital Winter Garden breaks ground on medical office building
Construction started Feb. 14 on a medical office building next to Florida Hospital Winter Garden the Orlando Sentinel reports.

8. New Cleveland Clinic cancer center to open in March
The Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center's new, 377,000-square-foot building will open its doors to patients on March 6.

9. USC plans new hospital: 4 things to know
The University of Southern California said it plans to build a new hospital on its health sciences campus in Los Angeles.

10. Former Playboy headquarters in Chicago to be turned into medical offices
A real estate investment firm purchased Playboy Enterprises' former Chicago headquarters for $109.5 million and aims to convert the 29-story building into a medical office and research building, according to the Chicago Business Journal.

11. Texas Health Resources to open 74-bed hospital in 2019
Arlington-based Texas Health Resources plans to build a 74-bed acute care hospital in Frisco, Texas, Dallas News reports.

12. Parkview Medical Center breaks ground on outpatient center
Pueblo, Colo.-based Parkview Medical Center broke ground on Feb. 15 on an outpatient center that is intended to free up space at the main campus, according to News Channel 13.
