Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Needham (Mass.) has received a $15 million gift to advance its planned campus expansion.

The hospital is part of Cambridge, Mass.-based Beth Israel Lahey Health.

The donation, from Barbara Levine, Bruce Levine and family and Ina and Lewis Heafitz, includes financial support and the contribution of two properties needed for the project to support the hospital’s growth and extension of its Transforming Health Care Here campaign, according to a Sept. 30 news release.

BID Needham’s long-term campus expansion aims to increase care access and meet growing care needs in the community. Existing plans include a new outpatient-focused facility to expand capacity and bring services like surgery, primary care, women’s health, behavioral health and digestive health closer to home. The building will be named for the Levine and Heafitz families.

The expansion also supports Beth Israel Lahey Health’s commitment to offer 70% of care in community settings. It’s one of the most significant investments in BID Needham’s history, the release said.

The gift builds on a $20 million gift from Valerie Trotman and her family in 2024, the largest in BID Needham’s history. Their gift helped launch the $40 million Transforming Health Care Here campaign and accelerated the facility’s campus transformation plans.

“With more than $46 million raised to date and an expanded vision for the hospital’s future, BID Needham is extending the Transforming Health Care Here campaign through 2031 and increasing its fundraising goal to $70 million,” the release said. “The expanded campaign will support the next phase of campus growth while continuing to advance its core priorities of workforce development and access and innovation.”
