Approximately 12,000 UC nurses are expected to strike after contract negotiations failed to include a 4 percent raise or increased nurse-to-patient rations for certain critically ill patients, according to the report.

The California Public Employment Relations Board, which oversees collective bargaining agreements for state employees, plans to seek a temporary restraining order today to halt the strike.
