MUSC Health Lancaster (S.C.) Medical Center has launched a patient care technician apprenticeship program in partnership with York Technical College in Rock Hill, S.C., and Columbia-based Apprenticeship Carolina.

The eight-week, paid apprenticeship combines five weeks of classroom instruction with approximately three weeks of clinical hours at the hospital, according to a Sept. 23 health system news release. Participants will earn their certified nursing assistant certification and gain a direct pathway to employment with the hospital.

The first cohort will include eight participants and begin orientation in early October.

The program aims to build a pipeline of skilled professionals to support rural healthcare delivery in South Carolina.

MUSC Health Lancaster Medical Center is a 211-bed facility. It is part of Charleston, S.C.-based MUSC Health.
