Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City, Ind., has launched its own police force, the hospital shared in a July 30 Facebook post.

Hospital officials said the police force aims to enhance the safety and security of patients, staff and visitors. Chief Greg Webb will lead the police force.

“With decades of law enforcement experience and a deep commitment to community-focused service, Chief Webb brings leadership, professionalism, and a passion for keeping PCMH a safe place for all,” hospital officials wrote.

Perry County Memorial is a 24-bed acute care facility with more than 315 employees. It is the latest hospital in Indiana to create its own police force. Linton, Ind.-based Greene County General Hospital created its own police department in 2023.

These efforts come as reports of violence at hospitals and medical centers continue to reverberate across the U.S. To address workplace violence, hospitals and health systems are more tightly integrating violence prevention into their broader human resources and well-being strategies.

Lawmakers have also focused on workplace violence prevention in healthcare. In May, federal lawmakers introduced legislation that would set federal criminal penalties for assaulting hospital employees.
