Beth Israel Cuts 70 Jobs

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston laid off 70 employees last month, according to a report in the Boston Globe.

Beth Israel previously said it would lay off 600 workers because of a projected $20 million operating loss, according to the report.

Additionally, about 100 employees are taking early retirement to offset the total number of layoffs. Voluntary wage freezes, salary cuts in higher-paying administrative jobs and benefit reductions have also helped to reduce the number of layoffs.
