More than 23,000 nurses at Sutter Health, Kaiser Permanente and Children’s Hospital Oakland, are expected to participate. The strike would impact 34 hospitals.
Sutter nurses are striking over increases in out-of-pocket health costs as well as changes in staffing agreements. Kaiser nurses will strike in support for Kaiser social workers, optometrists, psychologists and other Kaiser employees, who have already scheduled a strike for Sept. 22 over “substantial reductions” in healthcare and retirement coverage, according to the release.
Nurses at Children’s Hospital Oakland will strike for a third time over ongoing contract negotiations. The nurses are at odds with the hospital over healthcare costs and staffing issues.
