University of Kansas Hospital (Kansas City). Eight physicians staff University of Kansas Hospital’s department of neurosurgery, making it one of the largest neurosurgical groups in the Kansas City area. The hospital’s neurosurgeons have performed 200-plus bypasses for Moyamoya disease, a rare cerebrovascular disease caused when arteries at the base of the brain are blocked, and within the last five years have performed 1,000-plus deep brain stimulation procedures. The University of Kansas Hospital also has a robust spine surgery program, housing the Marc A. Asher, MD, Comprehensive Spine Center, and is a designated Blue Distinction Center+ for spine surgery. U.S. News & World Report ranked the University of Kansas Hospital among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for neurology and neurosurgery in 2017-18.
