University of Chicago Medical Center. The Section of Neurosurgery at the University of Chicago Medical Center comprises neurovascular surgery, neuro-oncology, epilepsy, spinal surgery and pediatric neurosurgery specialties, among others. Research is a cornerstone of the University of Chicago Medical Center’s mission, and physicians at the hospital’s Brain Tumor Center are developing brain tumor models, drug delivery methods and gene therapy treatments, with some efforts funded through the National Institutes of Health. The hospital’s spine care team is staffed by two spine surgeons and earned the Blue Distinction Center+ for spine surgery designation.
