Man accused of 2014 medical center stabbing sentenced to 15 years in prison

A 27-year-old man who stabbed a nurse at Sylmar, Calif.-based Olive View-UCLA Medical Center in April 2014 was sentenced to 15 years and eight months in state prison, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

Ramiro Carnalla, 27, pleaded no contest to one count of attempted murder and resisting police as well as two misdemeanor counts of assault and battery.

On April 20, 2014, Mr. Carnalla waited outside Olive View Hospital and called 911, claiming to have a gun. When police arrived, he went inside the hospital and stabbed a nurse 12 times, according to CBS Los Angeles. The nurse was in critical but stable condition following the attack, according to the Los Angeles Times.
