Louisiana’s Shriners Hospital and LSU Health Sciences Consider Merger

Shriners Hospital in Shreveport, La., and LSU Health Sciences Center-Shreveport are considering merging their operations, according to a report by the Shreveport Times.

The merger would transfer the Shriners’ facility’s ownership to the LSU system and is expected to be complete within a year. Under the agreement, LSU would renovate and expand the facility and Shriners would operate separately inside the facility, according to the report.

LSU and Shriners have been in talks for nearly five years to merge operations. The talks were expedited after the national Shiners announced it might close several hospitals, including the one in Shreveport. However, facilities currently remain open.
