While Centrgra announced plans in June to shutter the Woodstock hospital’s intensive care unit, cease medical-surgical operations and remove operating room beds, the measure needed still required board approval.
Under the approved plan, the suspended services at the Woodstock facility will be moved to Centegra’s hospitals in McHenry and Huntley, Ill. In addition Centegra will convert the former comprehensive emergency room at Woodstock to a basic emergency center, which means patients in need of an overnight stay or intensive care must be transferred. The Woodstock hospital will keep its inpatient behavioral health unit.
Centegra will also remove 22 rehabilitation beds from the McHenry location.
“I have utmost respect for the many contributions Centegra has made, not only provisions for health care, but also as corporate citizens,” Woodstock Mayor Brian Sager said, according to the Northwest Herald. “Centegra has worked with us in making good things happen for our residents and those in the larger region. … I choose to believe they have tried, in light of the given circumstances and current trends, to make the best decisions they could.”
