Hospital CEO exits in the United States fell in June and continue to run below last year’s pace, according to a July 23 report from global outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, shared with Becker’s.
Six things to know:
1. Hospitals reported 10 CEO exits in June, down from 14 in May and from 17 in June 2025.
2. Hospitals have posted 74 CEO exits through the first half of 2026, up from 68 in the same period of last year — making it one of the few industries Challenger, Gray & Christmas tracks that is running ahead of 2025’s pace.
3. Across all industries, CEO exits fell 1% to 138 in June from 140 in May and are down 33% from the 207 recorded in June 2025.
4. Through the first six months of 2026, 920 CEO exits have been reported across all industries, down 26% from 1,235 in the same period last year.
5. Boards are prioritizing stability over change, according to Andy Challenger, labor expert and chief revenue officer for Challenger, Gray & Christmas. “After two years of elevated turnover, companies are prioritizing stability,” Mr. Challenger said in a statement.
6. Women account for 27.5% of newly named CEOs year-to-date across all industries, up from 25.4% in the same period of 2025 and on pace to surpass last year’s full-year rate.
