Under the partnership, the two physician training programs would merge into one larger program with more than $200 million in funding, according to the report. If the partnership is completed, Wayne State will be one of only a few medical schools in the United States with a relationship with a health system as big as Henry Ford.
The combined program will also enhance the two group’s research efforts, and Henry Ford hopes that the partnership will bring more physicians to the state, which could be facing a physician shortage in the next few years, according to the report.
Henry Ford and Wayne State have three months to finalize their agreement. According to the report, the agreement will not compromise Wayne State’s current partnership with Detroit Medical Center.
