Huntsville Hospital opposed Crestwood’s CON application on the grounds that there was no need for another angioplasty program in the community. Huntsville Hospital already has an angioplasty program as well as open-heart surgery capabilities, which Crestwood does not have. Earlier this year, a state-appointed administrative law judge recommended granting Crestwood a CON based on evidence that angioplasty can be performed safely at the hospital without open-heart surgery back-up.
As a condition for the CON, however, Crestwood is required to inform patients that they may need to be transported to a different hospital if a complication in the procedure results in the need for open-heart surgery.
Huntsville Hospital CEO David Spillers said the hospital is unlikely to appeal the CON decision, according to the report.
