With the hospital’s capital budget tied to other activities, and without the luxury of time, hospital officials turned to a rental option from Johnson Controls, which delivered and installed a chiller within 48-hours of the initial call.
The rental fees are paid out of the operational budget instead of as a capital expense.
“The rental chiller solution by Johnson Controls allowed us to continue our operations without interruption, and take the necessary time to thoroughly research our options and make the right decision about the future of our central plant operations,” Bill Christie, the director of facilities at Bayfront Medical Center, said in a case study.
The rental solution fixed the problem quickly and also allowed officials to evaluate all the options. They eventually decided to replace the chiller permanently with a newer model, which actually lowered utility costs.
