The device, used to lower the risk of stroke, is intended for patients who already had one stroke caused by a blood clot passing through a hole in the heart and into the brain.
The device prevents a second stroke from occurring by closing up the hole in the patient’s heart. Clinicians insert the Amplatzer PFO Occluder through a catheter in a patient’s leg and into the patient’s heart.
