China imposed 125% tariffs on U.S. goods in retaliation to President Donald Trump imposing a 145% tariff rate on Chinese goods, NPR reported April 11.
China’s finance ministry said no additional measures will follow: “If the U.S. continues to increase tariffs on Chinese exports, China will not respond. Given the current level of tariffs, U.S. goods exported to China are no longer market-viable.”
This comes after President Trump announced April 10 a total tariff rate of 145% on Chinese exports, including a pre-existing 20%.
He initially increased the tariff rate on China to 125% on April 9, citing “lack of respect that China has shown to the World’s Markets.”
