The shortage stems from low donor turnouts due to South by Southwest, a popular film and media festival, along with schools’ spring breaks this week. An increase in traumas over the last few days further dwindled existing blood supplies.
More than 40 hospitals and medical facilities across 10 counties rely on We Are Blood’s blood supply. The company is calling on all healthy central Texas residents to donate blood or platelets at one of three blood banks in the area or at a mobile blood drive.
