The blood administration sets are used to administer blood from a container to a patient’s vascular system through an IV catheter inserted into a vein. B. Braun received complaints that the sets had the potential to leak at the joint between the blood filters and tubing.
Blood set leakage can result in a delay in therapy, due to the need to replace the set, and blood product or bloodstream infection as microorganisms could enter the circulatory system.
B. Braun said it has not received any reports of serious injury or death related to the recall.
The sets were distributed in the U.S. and Canada between June 11, 2019, and Sept. 27, 2019. Distributors and customers with the sets should immediately discontinue use and call B. Braun to arrange a replacement or refund.
