Roper St. Francis Healthcare (Charleston, S.C.). Founded in 1852 to treat all patients regardless of their “complexion, religion or nation,” Roper St. Francis now includes three hospitals with 657 beds in addition to 90 other facilities and physician offices. The health system has 800 affiliated physicians and 5,800 employees. As the only nonprofit, private health system in Charleston, Roper St. Francis’s foundation raises funds for the system to continue providing care. This year, Truven Health Analytics named Roper among the 15 Top Health Systems in 2017 for the fifth consecutive year. The health system also created the Roper St. Francis Health Alliance last year, a clinically integrated network for Medicare patients.
