University of California Davis Health in Sacramento awarded certificates to six students who completed its Radiology and Imaging Sciences Scholars program.

The program, in its second year, offers community college and early undergraduate students exposure to medical imaging careers through faculty mentorship, research and hands-on clinical experiences, according to a Dec. 18 news release from the health system. Students are treated as junior colleagues, receiving department badges and access to internal systems.

It is designed to introduce learners to career paths in radiology that are often overlooked by early stage students. Sessions were held at Aggie Square, the system’s public-facing innovation hub in Sacramento, where students explored imaging specialties and developed career vision plans. Program alumni are now returning as guest speakers for incoming cohorts.

Leaders said in the release that plans include expanding the program’s size and offering stipends for student-led research.
