Scientists at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, created a rapid vaccine production platform that can be adapted to make various vaccines. The platform uses a new technology called a “molecular clamp,” which helps stabilize viral surface proteins the vaccines use to prevent infections.
Scientists predict the platform could produce hundreds of thousands of vaccine doses ready for testing in as little as 16 weeks. The technology opens the door for the world to quickly respond to new and unknown pathogens.
Launched in 2017, CEPI is an alliance of public, private, philanthropic and civil organizations that aims to advance vaccine development to prevent future epidemics.
