Conservatives Protest Virginia Medicaid Expansion

Conservative activists gathered in Richmond, Va., Monday to voice their opposition to a potential Medicaid expansion, according to a report from The Washington Post.

Americans for Prosperity — a conservative political advocacy group — sponsored the rally, which took place before the state’s Medicaid Innovation and Reform Commission met. AFP State Director Dave Schwartz told attendees it doesn’t make sense to enroll more people in a broken system, according to the report.

Earlier this year, the state created the commission, which has the authority to approve the Medicaid expansion. Policy experts have said the outcome of the state’s upcoming gubernatorial election and what it says about the state’s political climate could influence the Medicaid panel.
