Broward Health receives 6 Fort Lauderdale airport shooting victims

Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Broward Health Medical Center received six trauma patients injured in a shooting at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Jan. 6.

Trauma surgeons receiving patients at the hospital described the scene as “look[ing] like chaos, but it was controlled,” Ralph Guarneri, MD, general surgeon, told Palm Beach Post.

The six patients accepted at Broward were reported stable as of Jan. 6.  

Broward Health is a Level I trauma center. 

Esteban Santiago, 26, is suspected of opening fire at the Fort Lauderdale airport Jan. 6, killing five people and wounding eight others, according to Palm Beach Post. The suspect is in custody and is unharmed. He will be seen in court Monday.
