A letter to the Congress, backed by patient safety advocates, calls for both a Congressional Committee on Patient Safety and a Patient Safety Board that will function like the National Transportation Safety Board, increasing transparency and accountability.

“I get emails and I hear stories all the time from yet another person who is caring, educated, involved in their loved one’s care and things didn’t go well,” said Pat Mastors, of the Patient Voice Institute, an advocacy group, according to the report.
