The scammers called the nurse, who wished to remain anonymous, four times under the ruse that she had unpaid debts. They knew her full name, where she lived and the last four digits of her Social Security number.

The scammers also called her employer and spoke to her boss. The nurse said they threatened to report her to the state or take away her nursing license if she did not pay off the debt.

The nurse paid the scammers close to $300, but never received a confirmation email as promised. After growing suspicious of the charge, she alerted her bank and contacted local authorities.
