Rather than return to their former hospital jobs, some travel nurses are leaving the field altogether as demand for travel nurses comes back down from unprecedented highs during the pandemic, NBC News reported Sept. 3

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky, MD, tapped Mary Wakefield, PhD, to lead a major revamp of the agency that prioritizes future public health responses after the shortcomings of the COVID-19 response. 

Several colleges and universities have launched nursing programs and partnerships to address persistent shortages nationwide.

Vanderbilt University School of Nursing is aiming to improve diversity among nurse leaders through a new fellows program, the Nashville, Tenn.-based organization said Sep. 1. 

Currently, the highest-demand clinical areas in the acute care setting are Intensive Care, Emergency, Labor and Delivery, and the OR/Procedural departments. ReSkilling  is designed to help facilities find and train qualified clinicians to provide that specialized care.
