The policy, first introduced Sept. 11, would require all flavors of e-cigarettes besides tobacco to be removed from the market to get “premarket authorization” before being allowed to return.
“This policy would prioritize FDA’s enforcement of premarket authorization requirements for non-tobacco flavors,” Dr. Sharpless said in his testimony before a House subcommittee.
He clarified that the policy does not mean flavored e-cigarettes will never be allowed to be marketed, but that they will have to meet FDA standards.
Once the policy is finalized, e-cigarette makers will have about 30 days to pull products from the market.
