A Sept. 24 Peterson-KFF Health System Tracker analysis compared TrumpRx prices for 32 brand-name drugs without generic or biosimilar competition with publicly listed prices in 11 peer OECD countries.
Here are six findings to know:
- TrumpRx prices were lower than the peer-country average for 17 of the 32 drugs, by an average of 31%, and higher for 15, by an average of 262%.
- TrumpRx had the lowest price among all countries compared for five drugs and the highest price for 13. Rydapt, a cancer treatment, was priced about $3,000 below the next-lowest price available in a peer country.
- Premarin Vaginal Cream, a menopause treatment, was priced more than 10 times higher on TrumpRx than in Canada, the only other country where pricing was available. Enbrel, a rheumatoid arthritis drug, cost $2,725 more than the peer-country average.
- TrumpRx had the highest price among the countries compared for Ozempic Pen, at $349 compared with $190 in the next-highest country. It also had the highest price for Zepbound KwikPen maintenance doses, while Germany was the only country with a higher price for Wegovy Pen.
- KFF noted the analysis does not adjust for cost of living, does not reflect actual U.S. or international out-of-pocket costs after insurance or rebates and excludes drugs without international pricing data, including the oral form of Wegovy and Lilly’s Foundayo.
- The findings add to previous comparisons of TrumpRx prices. The platform launched Feb. 5 with 40 brand-name drugs and has since expanded its offerings. A March analysis by The New York Times found German prices were lower than TrumpRx prices for more than half of 24 drugs compared. A Senate report in April found that manufacturers with most-favored-nation agreements raised prices on hundreds of other medications while discounting select drugs on TrumpRx.
